It’s been dubbed the ultimate joy ride and won the 2022 MOTOR Sports Car of the Year.
For the launch, Subaru Australia assigned Narrative Post for the photography and videography of the new Subaru BRZ for its publicity and marketing campaigns.
The original Subaru BRZ and its sister Toyota 86 are a motoring enthusiast’s dream. A joint project between Subaru and Toyota, it aimed to produce a dynamic, engaging, and affordable rear-wheel-powered sports coupe. As comfortable on the road as it is on a race track.
The newest version of this sports car promises to build on its original premise by refining its looks and improving its performance by upgrading to a 2.4-litre engine.

BRZ Bold Design
In creating the imagery for the BRZ, its bold design tell’s its own story, a well-proportioned sports car with a dramatic low and wide front end, with sleek and dynamic curves. Given the sports pedigree of the BRZ’s, lower shooting angles were preferred accentuating the bold, dynamic nature of these vehicles.
To meet our urban location brief, a rooftop city carpark, and the White Bay Overseas Passenger terminal were chosen. Both locations had room to position vehicles to minimise reflections and distractions allowing the BRZ’s natural good looks to shine. The White Bay location offers a striking Sydney City skyline as a backdrop.
Thankfully the weather held out for the duration of this shoot, against the Sydney climate trend, allowing for the creation of a strong set of images in both direct sunlight and preferred muted dusk light.

A Driver’s Car
Whilst it’s a privilege to be able to capture imagery of new cars, we’re often not able to appreciate them from a driver’s point of view.
Contrary to that the BRZ demanded our appreciation, driving them to and from locations. Fun to drive, they offered an engaging and dynamic ride with responsive handling and power. A driver’s car.
We’ve never been so reluctant to return cars after a shoot.

Moving Image
Video footage of the BRZ was released as ‘Broll’ clips and distributed to media to then edit with their own clips for a complete video review. Then for marketing and social media use, we produce sizzle reels like the one below.
